First day of 2010

The first record I’ve loved in 2010 is Creatures’ ‘I, Lucifer’ LP. Awesome metallic hardcore in the vein of mid-era Ringworm. Definitely excellent. You can download it here. Even if metallic 90s-style hardcore isn’t your thing you should give this a couple of spins. Nothing not to like.

I’ve resolved a hundred times to use tumblr regularly and it has always fell through after a few posts. I figured that, as I don’t really use anything other than Collective-Zine and last.fm with any regularity, it might make sense to use something like this to keep anyone interested up-to-date with anything to do with cool records I’ve heard about or what’s happening with this zine I’m doing and everything. I’d just use the domain I’ve got for my distro but its a real pain logging in via Internet Explorer and waiting for all the shit to load.

There’s a lot going on for me just now. In January I’m hosting a poker game at my house — a £10 buy-in each with a pay-out for the top 3 sit-and-go just like on the internet. I’m only really inviting good players so I’m way excited about it. I’ll hopefully make myself some money from that. Some people are also going to come round and help me fold and spray paint all the inserts for the Men As Trees ‘Weltschmerz’ tape I’m putting together just now. We’ll listen to the new Gruel DLP tons. Around the same time, all the dudes who have been writing for this zine should be hanging out and pasting some stuff together. It feels good to be making some progress. Lastly, there should be an all-ages show at the GSC at the end of the month. Everything should be booked up and confirmed by the new year and I’ll have tons of flyering to do. Its all really exciting! Come mid-January, you can add university into the equation. Its going to be a busy year!

Today I got a new record player for Christmas and have been listening to Little Gold’s ‘On The Knife’ LP a lot. Its really sleepy, lo-fi country-ish stuff that is obviously related to Woods. You can try it here before you buy the LP. Recommended.
